On August 15, 1975, Firefighter Donald A. Moore of Truck 38 of the Chicago Fire Department died in the line of duty during a fire at a car dealership on North Cicero Avenue. An eighteen-foot brick wall collapsed on Moore as he and two other firefighters were trying to break down a wooden door at the rear of the building. Fire had weakened the truss roof supports in the building, causing the wall to collapse.
He was survived by his wife and five children.
